The V&A presents Marie Antoinette Style, the first major UK exhibition dedicated to the queen’s enduring influence on fashion, design and culture. Known for her opulence, charisma and flair, Marie Antoinette has fascinated generations, and this exhibition explores how her image and taste have continued to inspire across centuries.
More than 250 objects will be displayed, including gowns, jewellery, accessories and portraits, alongside rare loans from Versailles. Visitors will also discover how her style has been reinterpreted in film, art and popular culture, reflecting both the fantasy and the tragedy of her story. Highlights include personal belongings that bring a human touch to her legend as well as immersive contemporary installations that reimagine her world for today.
Curated with a focus on design and identity, the exhibition considers Marie Antoinette as one of history’s first modern fashion icons. It reveals how her influence shaped the aesthetics of her own time while continuing to resonate in contemporary creative practice.
