Take in Shakespeare’s Most Whimsical Comedy this Autumn

Until 25th of October 2025

Step into the festive world of Twelfth Night at Shakespeare’s Globe, where mistaken identities, disguises and revelry collide in the sun-soaked setting of Illyria. Robin Belfield’s lively production bursts with bold costumes, carnival spirit and comic energy that draw the audience into the heart of the fun.

The story begins with a shipwreck that separates twins Viola and Sebastian. Believing her brother to be lost, Viola disguises herself as Cesario and enters the service of Duke Orsino. From there, a series of entanglements unfold. Olivia falls in love with Viola in disguise, Orsino remains devoted to Olivia, and Sebastian’s unexpected arrival adds another twist to the tale. Meanwhile, the subplot of Malvolio, tricked into believing his mistress loves him, brings some of the play’s sharpest comedy.

Full of music, humour and playfulness, this staging captures both the romantic spirit and the mischievous fun of Shakespeare’s text. With its mix of longing, laughter and carnival celebration, Twelfth Night continues to charm audiences as one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. Whether you are revisiting a favourite or discovering it for the first time, this is a production that promises joy and delight in equal measure.
