If you’ve ever found yourself in London and unexpectedly come across a high-wire act or a street performance in a public space, it was probably GDIF, the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival. And in 2025, GDIF marks its 30th year.
The festival brings free outdoor performances to streets, parks and waterfronts across Greenwich, Woolwich, Stratford, Thamesmead and beyond. This year’s theme, Above & Beyond, sets the tone for a programme that’s ambitious, surprising and rooted in public space.
It opens with a high-wire performance by an all-female cast in Woolwich, accompanied by live music and a choir. This is just one of many large-scale events planned. Expect theatre on water, roaming installations, street parades and site-specific dance. Some pieces are playful, others politically charged, but all are designed to stop you in your tracks.
What sets GDIF apart is its commitment to accessibility. No tickets, no barriers. Just a celebration of performance in the everyday spaces we often overlook. Whether you’re planning a day out or simply passing by, it’s the kind of festival that invites you to see the city differently.
